I Am Legend was not a movie I was expecting to be impressed by. It was one of those movies you get from Netflix because you never saw them in theater, and wonder what they’re all about. It really surpassed my expectations.
The horror elements were actually thrilling, something that seems to be missing from most horror movies. It does use certain dose of gore to achieve its shock, but most of it comes from the way the story is played (there’s something new!). The emotional and character elements were actually strong, not washed away by the scares or the effects. I was just thrilled to see a movie in this genre where the elements actually worked together – maybe from having just watched 30 Days of Night (oh goodness) and Cloverfield (which wasn’t a bad movie, but as much as I love J.J. Abrams, it just didn’t quite do it for me).
I’ve read some complaints about the quality of the CGI, but it must have only been noticeable on the big screen, because on DVD it was beautiful. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a fresh 69 percent. I’d definitely recommend checking it out.
Jerry Shaw is a normal guy living in a normal apartment working a normal job. Until his normal apartment starts filling up with high grade weapons and his normal life starts filling up with strange phone calls telling him to do as he’s told or die.
That’s the starting point for the movie Eagle Eye. What if someone could see your every move, control every digital asset, and was bent on using you as their pawn? Then you’d want to take the battery out of your phone. Thankfully though, the plot twists and turns go far beyond that scenario.
It falls into my favorite genre – action movies that leave you with something more to think about than “kill everyone.” It achieves a good balance between thought and explosion, and even manages to inject some laughs. And there’s lots of car chases. Lots of them.
